Billfish Slam Panama means offshore sport fishing with Come Fish Panama for the month of January in 2016, which was absolutely epic! Arriving to provide the rod bending action for the billfish slam Panama
we had Texas anglers Glen Davey along with Bob Nagelout, angler Alex Lemoine from France, Chris Jefferson group from BC Canada, California anglers Harry, Harrison & Taylor Rodgers, Christian & Aneka Click from Sweden, Peter Durfee Group from Massachusetts, Grant Simpson & Robert Poston from North Carolina, Ron & Larry Wessel out of Arizona, Michigan angler Fred Crandal III, California anglers Ron & Robin Buck, and to close out the month Bernardo, Hector, Ronaldo and Askenaz from Mexico.
Sun and Calm Seas
During the month of January anglers encountered full days of sun and more sun as it is our summer season in Panama. It’s one of the best months to bend rods for billfish as due to the title of the fishing report Billfish Slam Panama. Warm topwater temperature with calm blue seas along with winds pretty much out of the southeast during the morning and North Northwest
late afternoon. Blue water was crystal clear throughout the month which we consider excellent for targeting billfish. Casting live bait blue runners to Big Pacific Sailfish or even Striped Marlin what we consider the most beautiful Marlin of them all, with its bluish-purple stripes vividly blazing along its body as they sun themselves over the pacific blue ocean.
Billfish Slam Panama
With some angler groups looking to sport fish and target only billfish others were looking for a mix bag. But when the Yellowfin Tuna showed up early during the month of January many billfish groups had the opportunity to catch the trifecta (Marlin, Pacific Sailfish Yellowfin Tuna all in either a single day or during their visit. January continues to be the go to month for a 93% change of billfish hook up ratio, all but 1 group did not manage a solid hook up but then again this group only fished 2 days.
As you will notice with the photos below these worldwide anglers were bending rods not only on Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Pacific Sailfish and Yellowfin Tuna but many counts of other different species from Silk Snapper, Cubera Snapper, Mullet Snapper, Barred Snapper, Rooster Fish, Wahoo, Dorado, African Pompano, Amberjack, Jack Crevalle, Bluefin Trevally among others. So remember, even though this report is called Biilfish Slam Panama you will encounter many other species in our waters during your January visit should you target sport fish during this month.
On behalf of the Come Fish Panama team, we once again would like to thank all our global anglers that provided us an opportunity to take them sport fishing. We fully recognize that there are many other fishing charter providers out there and are grateful our customers chose us. Come Fish Panama looks forward to making it happen all over again soon. Enjoy some of the photos be posted below as over 3,000 plus shots were taken during the month alone.
